Its all a nice dream but lets get serious. Windsor is a very affordable city yes. BUT - it is simply not a great place. The people are very rough around the edges. Most are fat blue collar union types with an entitlement attitude. This is not pleasant for those who are not of the same ilk. Also, Detroit is not Canada. Sure you can go over to Detroit but it a pretty bad city and you still have the border to worry about. Shopping in Detroit? Why? you pay taxes there then taxes again crossing back into Canada. You cannot save any money that way. USing Detoits airport is also not at all handy. Its not exactly accross the street and what if you want to fly to Vancouver or Calgary? Why would you go thru Customs both ways to do that? THere is no service at the Windsor airport other than Air Canada to Toronto and the occasional tour company flight. THey choose the destination. Thats severely limiting to retirees.

Windsor is alright overall but I do not see it being a draw for older people. Its pretty lowbrow, isolated and very small town in services. REstaurants are not very good, everyone appears to buy pretty much everything from Walmart. Windsors population may not see it but visitors do. More mullets and alcoholic noses than anywhere else I've been.

I would love to enter into a discussion with our local real estate agents/boards on how my organization and numerous contacts could help further your goals with this plan.

My organization, scaledown.ca, works tirelessly to make Windsor a more walkable, liveable community. These are attributes that would be absolutely necessary if we were to attract the quantity of seniors to the area needed to make this plan a success. By getting closer to the day these seniors give up driving, they need a pleasant, compact environment to live without impeding their mobility.

A big part of living in "The Big City" is access to good public transit and a close proximity to local, neighbourhood shops. All this without the need to get in their cars and drive endlessly.

This is a goal of scaledown, and for me personally. I think this region has so much to offer, but we need to get our priorities straight. With a heightened sense of cooperation between (seemingly) unlikely allies, we can accomplish great things!
